July 08 Google PageRank update?

July 28th, 2008 | 160 wordcount

I think there was a Google PageRank update this weekend?? I’m not sure, but I got the idea there might have been one from here: the Google PR update is on! what’s your new page rank? So if there was one, I’m just letting people know who didn’t. You can check your PageRank here: Google PageRank Checker - Check Google page rank of any web pages.

Mine is 0/10. That’s disappointing. I wonder if I did anything wrong for it to be like that or if it’s just because my website is still new. Maybe my site just sucks, haha.

Anyway if you check your PageRank and see that it’s the same as before or even went down — don’t fret. Apparently, the other sites connected to your main site could have a higher ranking than your main URL, according to this article: Is Your Home Page’s Google PageRank Less Than Your Inner Pages PageRank?

I guess any upgrade is a good upgrade.

You need to work on gettnng more elevant backlinks to your site if you want your pagerank to go up. Also, this update wasn’t very kind to newer sites as previous updates had been.

In any case, pagerank isn’t really all that important. Just keep producing quality content and building backlinks (by commenting on other blogs or posting on forums) and you’ll probably get a PR2 or PR3 in the next update.

Hey, I appreciate the comment. I know I haven’t been very good with commenting others, but I’m starting to now because I see how important it is and I need to make a network of people in this blogging world.

Thank you again for this information. That was very nice of you. :)

Also I’m wondering how do you feel about Alexa scores?

Alexa scores are dodgy at best. For your siteto score well in Alexa, you’re site visitors must have the Alexa toolbar installed, so sites that are not in the webmaster, seo or make money online niches tend to have weaker Alexa scores than sites in those niches where visitors are more likely to have the toolbar installed.

One way you can increase you Alexa rankings is by installing the toolbar if you’re using IE and if you use Firefox you can install the “Search Status” plugin from quirk.biz which will help bump up your rankings.

About pagerank, you do know it doesn’t affect your SERPS (search engine results). Google has one PR that is visible in the toolbar and another internal PR they use when ordering search results.

So, although your site may be a PR0, you could technically be higher in between updates.

If you want a quick bump from internal PR, submit your blog to a few good blog directories that pass PR like blogratedirectory.com

That’s what I keep hearing about Alexa scores too lately. Makes me a little disappointed. I will definitely look into that “Search Status” plugin though.

About the PR, I knew it didn’t effect your SERP because my site comes up for all sorts of searches even though though I’m at 0. All though I DIDN’T know about the internal PR. That’s pretty fascinating.

You’re really informative. :) Thank you for your information.

BTW, do you have anymore directories like blogratedirectory.com?
