Be careful, we don’t want to make Sarah Palin cry?
October 2nd, 2008 | 694 wordcountI’m sure if you even just GLIMPSED at the television today you’ll see that one of the things that is DOMINATING the news is the Vice Presidential Candidate Debate that’s going to happen tonight between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden.
And one of the main issues surrounding this debate? Whether or not Sarah Palin should be treated differently then if she were a male. I kid you not, this is ONE OF THE BIG ISSUES OF THE DEBATE. Should Joe Biden treat Sarah Palin with chivalry?! I actually heard a journalist ask this on television.
And women are falling right into the trap of it — the trap of not knowing why this was brought up and actually discussing it like it matters. They are not thinking outside the box. Watching the news today, I saw CNN interviewing women that were saying they were offended that this was even brought up, and that Sarah Palin should be treated just like any candidate. And while I agree with them, I think this should go without saying. I shook my head, feeling disgusted, watching these women who were offended that this was even brought up by the news media.
First of all, my main question for these women who feel offended that this is even an issue: Are they Obama supporters? My money is betting that they are. Because this “issue” (if we can call it that) seems like an extremely clever ploy presented to the American voters by the McCain campaign. Why? Because the McCain campaign recognizes that, for all our cries for “gender equality”, American women deep down will be disgusted and turned off by any rough treatment towards another women. This problem was presented for the women who were once Hilary Clinton supporters, but are now McCain supports for the mere FACT that he has a woman on the ballot. This problem was presented for swing voters who have a TOUCH of old school feelings about women in them — which most Americans do.
And now, instead of focusing on the true issues at hand (not that debates ever really do that to begin with), we have to worry about a petty problem — was Joe Biden too rough on Sarah Palin? Was he a gentlemen? Was he kind enough to his opponent that we can over look the fact that he even went up against a woman in the first place?
I beg you all to ignore the gender issue here. Humans are people first and a gender second. Let’s not make this debate about something it’s not.
And as for the women who are saying they are offended, please realize that even discussing this in a way to say that you ARE offended is saying too much. You females are playing right into the hands of the media. It shouldn’t even be an issue. Shouldn’t even be something to be worked up about. The more people talk about it, the more it will overshadow some real problems that this country has. Feel nothing about it, say nothing about it, it’s a non-issue. Sit there blank faced when someone brings it up and be aloof — because that would be the right response.
It disgusts me that most Americans are falling into the trap.
My aunt said to me once me that McCain was smart to pick Sarah Palin as his Vice President, because Obama and Biden will look like scum bags ripping her apart — even more so then if they would have done to Hilary Clinton. And I have to say I agree with her. But I don’t think it’s a good thing that we are stuck in this mentality. Her gender should have no bearing on the political situation. And yet it does.
Wake up America. Stop letting petty things dominant your views, or overshadow more important things. This is what politicians and the media wants.
Even me writing this is too much — but at least I feel like I’m speaking the truth about it. It should be the NON-issue. Instead this will eat up more time then it should. What a shame. And what a way to further place a divide between males and females, as well.

The whole thing is retarded. Biden didn’t go easy on Hillary. neither did Obama.. or McCain. Why would he go easy on this creature? ( I refuse to even call her a woman )
LOL.
I’ve noticed that as a whole though, people dislike the personal attacks. I dislike the personal attacks. I don’t think it’s right for any of the four candidates (obama and mccain for the president, and biden or palin for the VP) should be doing that.
I also do not think we should give Palin an easy out simply because she’s a woman. You want the job? Be prepared to show the nation why it is exactly that you deserve it.
Think of it this way, when you go to an interview, and let’s say it’s for a fairly important job, nine times out of ten, you’re going to have to answer some serious questions and put thought into it if you really want it. This should be no different.
I watched the VP debate tonight, and felt that Palin’s responses seemed mostly scripted, and that she even avoided answering questions on more than one occasion. It was disheartening.
I agree with you. She did seem scripted.
I agree whole-heartedly, gender should NOT be an issue at all because if Sarah Palin can’t fend for herself on her own without being pampered by those of opposite gender than she’s just not right for the job.
Of course gender shouldn’t be an issue. It makes me sick that it is.
That’s really messed up that people think they need to treat Sarah Palin differently. She’s a politician, she can freaking take anything.
Agreed. Totally.
If Sarah Palin wanted to be a politician, she’s probably prepared to take the sort of stuff that male politicians do. Gender shouldn’t matter at all, and I certainly hope she won’t get any slack because she’s a girl.
I agree with you.
men happen to be superior than females in most facets of life…you go do the laundry and leave the presidency up to those of us with penises
…I am stunned.
