Watching the Presidential Debate tonight.
October 7th, 2008 | 557 wordcountI’m in the midst of watching the presidential debate tonight. First let me just say, when Obama just now mentioned 9/11 (around 9:25 PM Eastern time?), my stomach just lurched. Now that’s what I call an emotional response to politics. I really hate the fact that most politicians keep mentioning 9/11 to further their bad points or to make them look good or to make another person look bad. Can these lying, underhanded politicians, that mostly have ulterior motives, just leave that event alone?
I know, that’s too much to ask.
Anyway, what I mentioned just now is far from an intelligent response to this debate (that isn’t over yet), and it really isn’t why I started to write this post. I just had to say it.
The reason I started to write this is because Obama mentioned how higher oil prices are a national security issue — I’m not disputing that fact at ALL. I don’t doubt that it is.
But does anyone else but me remember how Saddam wanted to give us, the United States, cheap oil? And also wanted to be our friend? It was even in an Associated Press interview, and on the front of AOLs Welcome page when that interview first came out (I mention this because I can’t find it right now, and I don’t have the patience to do so — even though I know it’s somewhere on my LJ amidst the thousands of entries I have). And yet, now he’s dead, because of the actions of the United States, and our oil has sky rocketed, and now we have to worry about the national security issues around it and finding new ways for energy.
And isn’t it funny that the second 700 billion dollar bail out (the one that went through) snuck something in there about green energy and global warming? And who knows what else was slipped in — but that’s besides the point. Except that.. what does global warming and alternative energy have to do with bad mortgages?
ANYWAY.
My point is: Something REALLY doesn’t seem right here. I mean, it doesn’t really take a genius or a rocket scientist to put two and two together, right? Some people, somewhere, are making money off of these global warming fears and the search and construction for alternative energy.
I’m BEGGING you people to be free thinkers. If something seems wrong (and especially if you have a lot of different facts, MOST politics WILL seem wrong), it most likely IS.
Also: I think Obama is doing a TON better at this debate than Maverick McCain. I mean, really, does it not seem like McCain just is throwing out random wonderful facts about himself before answering the questions? It’s like he has something to prove, and it really doesn’t make him seem like he has confidence.
Edit:
And LOL @ McCain just now getting mad that Obama for following up every time McCain says something bad about him.
Edit:
AND ALSO… AGAIN WITH THE SECOND HOLOCAUST AND THE PROTECTION OF ISRAEL…
ISRAEL HAS OVER 100 NUCLEAR WEAPONS. (And meanwhile Iran can’t have even one nuclear weapon, right?)
That country is not the victim it portrays itself to be. IT CAN TAKE CARE OF ITSELF.
Wow…
Just.
Wow.
And my question is if the presidential candidates can ignore that BIG FACT, then what else are they ignoring?
Or lying about?
These are legitimate questions and begs an answer or some serious thought.

Those are definitely some solid thoughts. I, too, wish 9/11 could just be left alone. Not only in politics, but everywhere. Yes, it happened, it was tragic, and the families have every right to grieve. Bringing it up every time you want to make a point politically? Not really a good thing.
I’m really hoping that something in the US turns around after this election. I’m no longer living there but my family is, and it’s scary to think what’s -really- going on there behind closed doors.
I don’t like it when politicians talk about 9/11 either. It has become more of a campaign, than a terrorist attack.
Hey Cetta, I need to talk to you urgently. Get on MSN as soon as you can, aye?
